We say thank you to the Freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom. Long live India!!
What is Jalebi?
Jalebi, also known as Imarti, jilapi is an Indian sweet snack popular all over South Asia. It is made by frying all-purpose flour batter in pretzel or circular shapes which are then dipped in sugar syrup.

Jalebi with sugar syrup coating…Let’s make them now, okay?
- 1 Cup All-purpose flour
- 1+1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1 tsp Ghee/Clarified butter
- 1 tsp Lemon juice
- 1 tbsp Rice flour
- 1 pinch Food color (orange) (optional)
- 1 Green packet Eno
- 4 Cardamoms
- Oil (for frying)
STEPS TO MAKE JALEBI
To a large bowl, add 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 tbsp rice flour, 1 tsp Ghee/ clarified butter, 1 tsp lemon juice and 1 pinch orange food colour (optional).
Now, add little by little water and mix until you get a smooth paste.
For making sugar syrup, add 1+1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup water in a pan. The flame should be low to medium and stir until the sugar dissolves.
For flavour, I’m using 4 cardamoms and 1 tsp lemon juice. you can also add 1 pinch food colour. stir and set aside.
Beat the batter with your hand or whisk in a circular motion for around 3 mins ( make sure the batter should not either be too thick or thin.) Now, I’m adding 1 packet green Eno and 1 tbsp water into it. Mix well. ( I’ve used total 300 ml water for making this batter)
Afterwards, transfer the batter into a squeeze bottle or you can fill it in a muslin cloth or any plastic and pierce a small hole in it.
Pour the oil to heavy bottom non-stick, when the oil turns medium hot, gently squeeze the cloth/ bottle/ plastic, making the spiral motion. move from inside to outside to make circles.
Meanwhile, put the sugar syrup on stove to warm it.
Fry it till it gets crisp from both sides and remove them with tongs and immediately put the fried jalebis in the sugar syrup.
Serve the Jalebi or you can store it for 2 days in an airtight container.
