Shakkar Pare is my favourite snack, not only because they taste SO DARN GOOD, but because they can easily be made from scratch only by using 5 ingredients under 15 mins. This version is loaded up with wheat flour, suji, sugar syrup and ghee, and the result is dreamy. You can also serve this along with a cup of tea for the perfect fuss-free evening snack. Let’s get into this recipe, shall we?
- 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
- 4-5 tbsp Water
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
- 150 gm Wheat flour
- 2 tbsp Suji/semolina
- 1 pinch Salt
- 4 tbsp Ghee
- Oil for frying
Steps to make Shakkar Pare
For making sugar syrup, add 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 4-5 tbsp water in a pan on medium flame. Add 1/4 tsp cardamom powder and turn off the flame. Now, stir till the sugar dissolves. (The heat will help dissolve the sugar faster.)
In a bowl, add 150 gm wheat flour, 2 tbsp suji, 1 pinch salt, 4 tbsp ghee (you can also use oil instead of ghee) and mix everything well. (make sure the mixture is able to hold together instead of falling apart) Afterwards, add sugar syrup little by little to the mixture and knead until you get a smooth dough. Let the dough to rest for 10-15 mins.
Flatten the dough like a chappati. Furthermore, cut the flattened dough into equally small square or diamond shapes with the help of a knife or pizza cutter. In the meantime, heat the cooking oil in a kadhai.
Gently start dropping one by one into the oil on medium flame. After 5 mins, flip them one by one. Deep fry them until they turn golden. Place them on napkin or paper towel in a plate to absorb excess oil. Do this until all the pieces are fried.
Serve Shakkar Pare along with a cup of tea or you can also store it in the airtight container.
